Brassica oleracea Gongylodes "Purple Vienna"

Fall in love with the unique flavor of kohlrabi with this mild variety. The leaves can be eaten like kale and the white-fleshed bulbs like broccoli. The taste is mild and reminiscent of turnip and cabbage combined. A unique garden vegetable that should be a staple!

Planting Instructions
Type: Annual
Sun: Full
Planting Depth: 1/4”
Spacing: 12”
Water: Moderate
Days to Maturity/Bloom: 55-60 days
Height: 12-18”
Zones: 3-12

Approx seeds per order 300

This cold-season vegetable can be planted outside as soon as the ground can be worked. It can be direct seeded or transplanted 2-3 weeks before the last frost. Kohlrabi grows quickly, and is ready to be harvested a few weeks after planting.

Sow the seeds 1/2” deep and 9-12” apart. Rows should be 12-24” apart. Water consistently.

Harvest the entire plant when the leaves are 2-4” wide. Leaves can be harvested separately from the bulb. Kohlrabi bulbs are at their tender best when they are 2-3-inches diameter.

Plan a fall harvest by sowing seeds in midsummer and transplanting outside 6 weeks before the first frost.
