This herb is often used in many recipes for its familiar licorice flavor, and the leaves are used to dress up the plate. Dark Opal Basil may yield small pink blossoms, which adds nice color to your garden. Annual. 140 days. Zone 1-11. 24-36" height. 15-18" spacing. Produces a plant with dark green leaves and clusters of pale pink flowers.
  • Hardiness Zones: 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12; Height - 12 to 18 inches. Spacing - 4 to 8 inches. Spread - 1 1/2 to 3 inches. Seed indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost date, sowing them thinly in flats and providing heat to speed germination. Transplant 15-18" apart. To direct sow, plant the seeds 1/4" deep in rich soil and full sun, thinning to 15-18" apart when the seedlings develop. Basil also grows well indoors or as a container plant.
