Citrullus lanatus "Jubilee"

These oblong green-striped watermelons feature bright-red sweet flesh with large black seeds. They average 22” long, 11” in diameter, and 26-38 lbs. This is a watermelon for big gatherings! The Jubilee is heat-tolerant which makes it the ideal choice for warmer climates. It was specifically bred to handle hot, humid weather and be resistant to Fusarium Wilt and Anthracnose. It's no surprise this is one of the most popular varieties in the US.

Planting Instructions
Type: Annual

Planting Depth: 1”
Spacing: 2-3'
Water: Moderate
Days to Maturity/Bloom: 90-100 days

Melons have a long growing period. Check days to maturity before purchasing to ensure it can grow in your climate.

Plant 3-4 seeds 1" deep in small mounds 3' apart. Melon vines need ample space to spread out. Vines may be trained to grow up a trellis or support system. Trellising works best with smaller fruit varieties. Larger fruits will likely break off the vine before maturity if they are trellised. Melons may also be planted in rows 6'x6' apart.

Start seeds indoors to get a jumpstart. Then, transplant seedlings outdoors well after all danger of frost has passed. Melon seedlings are extremely tender and cold temperatures will kill them. Soil must be 65F or higher. Place transplanted seedlings in groups of three.

Melons need approximately 2" of water per week, while growing. Once the fruit starts to set, reduce watering for a sweeter melon.
