Planting Instructions

Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost or sow directly into the garden when soil temperatures exceed 55°F. Plant seeds 1 inch deep in rich, well-draining soil with full sun exposure. Space plants 3-6 inches apart in rows, and provide stakes to support their tall growth against wind or rain. Water consistently but avoid waterlogging.

Harvesting and Usage

Harvest beans fresh when the pods are plump and tender, or allow them to mature fully for dried beans. Pods are not edible. For fresh shell beans, pick before the pods dry. For dried beans, leave pods on the plant until they turn brown and the beans rattle inside. Fava beans are ideal for soups, stews, and traditional English recipes.
