Helianthus annuus

This one is for the birds! Leave the flower heads on and you will have many happy feathered friends. This sunflower is a quick and easy grower. With a seed that is softer than other gray-striped varieties and a high protein content, it is a good fuel for songbirds. It is also a good choice to make sunflower oil.

Type: Annual
Sun: Full
Planting Depth: 1”
Spacing: 8-12”
Water: Moderate/Low
Days to Maturity/Bloom: 80-100 days
Height: 4-5'
Zones: 1-10

Planting Instructions

Approx seeds per order 150

Sow outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Or, start indoors 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost and transplant seedlings.

Plant seeds individually, 1” deep, and 6-12” apart, in rows 30” apart. Water the seeds directly after planting and then water consistently throughout the season.

If planting directly outside, cover the area with netting or landscape cloth until they sprout. Birds love to dig them up for a snack!

Stagger plantings over the course of several weeks for continuous blooms.
