This cold-season vegetable should be planted outside as soon as the ground can be worked. It can be direct seeded or transplanted 2-3 weeks before the last frost. Many people start them indoors 6-8 weeks beforehand so they will be ready to harvest in the summer. Once it gets really hot out, the plants will bolt and stop producing.

Warmer climates should do plantings 85-100 days before the first frost of fall so the plants will be growing in cooler weather. This usually means planting in mid summer.

Sow the seeds 1/2” deep and 12-24” apart. Rows should be 36” apart.
